The Breast Care Program at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas has a Nurse Coordinator, Kathy Pratt, who acts as a patient resource of breast care assisting patients and their families as they navigate through the beast cancer treatment journey. Kathy is available to answer questions and offer decision making support in a compassionate and unbiased way. At the time of diagnosis, she provides an educational care package, filled with information and reference materials about breast cancer and its management. The nurse coordinator ensures a seamless continuum of care beginning with diagnosis and continuing through treatment and recovery.
The Women’s Cancer Resource Center, located near our office in the Margot Perot Center, contains a comprehensive collection of reference materials. In addition to a lending library, educational pamphlets and videos, the center provides internet access and research software. The center is staffed entirely by cancer survivors who provide patients and their families support, guidance, and hope. The Women’s Cancer Resource Center not only welcomes patients and families of Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, but also is open to the entire community. It is located on the first floor of the Margot Perot Hospital, Suite 107, and is open from 9 to 5 every weekday.
We also offer a trained genetic counselor and genetic testing to help patients realistically evaluate their risk for getting breast cancer and to test for the most common mutations that cause breast cancer.
There are also multiple support groups available to our patients:
Woman to Woman: A support group designed by women for women with breast cancer.
Reach to Recovery: A rehabilitation program designed to help women meet the physical, emotional, and cosmetic needs related to their disease and/or its treatment.
Dialogue: An informal discussion group providing opportunities to share common experiences in coping with cancer.
Look Good. . . Feel Better: A free, non-medical, product – neutral program offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association, and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) Foundation, a charitable organization supported by the cosmetic industry.
